Like most parents, I spent months trying to fix the symptoms: swapping products, adjusting foods, testing environmental triggers, and even working with practitioners… only to watch the flare-ups return again and again. What started as a skin issue became the doorway into something much deeper. The turning point was discovering hidden mold in our home: a root cause I never imagined would impact our health so profoundly. We later learned we had been exposed long-term, and suddenly so many symptoms made sense. As we detoxed from mold and rebuilt Nolan’s gut, it became clear how beautifully interconnected the body really is: the gut, liver, lymphatic system, skin, and immune system are constantly talking to one another. At the same time, I realized something else: we had been living in ways that pulled us far from how human biology is meant to thrive. Through years of research, late-night studying, and hands-on experience with myself and my children, I began to see that eczema, intolerances, and histamine reactions aren’t random. They’re messages from the body asking us to slow down, simplify, nourish, and return to a more traditional way of living. A life rooted in real food, sunlight, daily rhythms, clean air, and a supported environment. Supplements helped a little, but they were never the whole picture. This is where our journey shifted. Instead of chasing quick fixes, I started looking back towards ancestral wisdom and the simple, foundational practices that support the body’s biology without overwhelm. Working with practitioners gave us helpful pieces, but I often felt like I was stitching together a puzzle without a full picture. That led me to take things into my own hands: moving beyond symptom management and into true root-cause healing. After becoming an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach years ago, I’m now continuing my education as an Integrative Health Practitioner so I can run functional lab testing: not only to be my son’s best advocate, but to help other families uncover why symptoms are happening and how to rebuild health through both modern tools and traditional, time-tested living.
